Featuring the surprising combination of a traditionally shaped headboard with an inverted footboard, the Edgewood bed, in our Magnesium Pewter finish, is seemlessly crafted to fashion a truly graceful bed. Too soft to be contemporary, and too clean to be traditional, this bed fits beautifully in those "in between" home decors.

Should You Have a Guest Room?

!±8± Should You Have a Guest Room?

That is a question I ask myself whenever I start redecorating or moving things around in my house. For some it may make perfect sense and for others clearly not. These are some of the questions that you can ask yourself to determine if it makes sense for you?
How often do I have guests? If it's once or twice years than it may make sense to just have an air mattress or a pull out couch. If your parents or siblings visit you every weekend or every month than you may want to have a dedicated guest room. Who comes to visit? When my brother comes to visit he will literally sleep anywhere and be thankful that he's in a house. On the other hand, if my other brother and sister and law come they will want more comfortable accommodation for him and his wife. His days of air mattresses are over as compared to my younger brother which doesn't mind. If you find that dedicating an entire room for an occasional guest is too much then I would suggest make it a room that you use. Make it a smaller family room or put your exercise equipment into that room. It's better to use a room that you're ultimately paying for daily then have it sitting around collecting dust for the occasional guest. Futon, air mattresses and sofas make great sleeping areas for those that come once in a while. Most times family is just happy to be with family so it's not that important where they are sleeping. If the person has a spouse, children or if the person is elderly that may be a different story. They will need different accommodations and you will have to give them a more comfortable place to stay.

Once you ask yourself these questions and are really honest with yourself about how long someone is staying and how often they visit you will undoubtedly know whether a guest room is necessary or just a temporary sleeping solution.

Amish Log Furniture - Rustic Furniture That Lasts a Lifetime

!±8± Amish Log Furniture - Rustic Furniture That Lasts a Lifetime

The rustic look and amazing craftsmanship that goes into this log furniture is what appeals to many people. There is a warmth and solid atmosphere that these pieces bring to any room in your home.

Let me walk you through furnishing your house with beautiful amish log furniture - sturdy and affordable, and built to last forever.

You can have a beautiful solid 'Amish table' in your kitchen and these tables can be any length. They are accustomed to large families so they don't bat an eye if you need a ten foot table. They just simply ask, " How many log dining chairs will you need with that or perhaps you would prefer one of our solid log benches...!" And the benches are a sight to behold as they are made out of a half log. They cut a pine log in two, put some legs under it and you have one of the most sturdiest log benches to have around your dining room table or they can be set outside around a campfire or on your deck...

While we are still in the kitchen, let's not forget the rustic log barstools. They are sturdy enough to be put in a biker bar. They are made as swivel barstools or with a back on them or both if you want all the bells and whistles.

For your living room , there is a rustic log daybed that adds a beautiful warmth to your family area. When you get company, simply pull out the pop up trundle to switch it to a king size bed. Throw in a couple end tables, or perhaps a rustic log lamp.

Ahh.. the bedroom... that is where the amish log furniture truly shines! These beds are so sturdy that if your kids do jump on beds, they won't shake your house to pieces. Choose from king, queen, full, twin and my favorite, the rustic log bunkbeds.

You will want a dresser and this depends on the area of your bedroom, of course, but the six drawer one is the lowest, but also the widest at about sixty inches wide. Most of the dressers are about twenty inches deep and all of them come with the heavy duty, hundred pound , easy rolling sliders on the drawers. You can also choose from a five or four drawer pine chest of drawers / dresser.

Finish it off with a beautiful pine log armoire that can be used as a wardrobe, entertainment center or simply as an extra closet. Oh, and don't forget the log lamps or rustic log night stands. You can pick one with a cute drawer on it or simply a shelf.

Do you have an office space? Then you will want to take a look at the rustic log office furniture. From the log computer desk with a hutch on top to a simple pine desk with a file cabinet drawer on the side to a rustic log file cabinet and the solid pine amish made bookcase.

Throw a few handmade rugs on the floor and you won't want to leave your office all day!

Did you say you had kids? There is even a small rustic table, chairs, kid size rocking chair, and a kid size coat rack for their rooms.

Rustic log patio furniture - from log chairs to rustic deck benches to my favorite piece of deck furniture - the rustic log deck glider, ahhh...you will spend many hours in this piece (and so will your neighbors), watching a sunset or sharing a coffee with the sunrise...

Oh... I almost forgot to mention the log pet beds and rustic pet dish.

Loft Bed Plans - Ones That Are Easy to Build Yourself

!±8± Loft Bed Plans - Ones That Are Easy to Build Yourself

Having good loft bed plans will make it easy to build a bed that is comfortable affordable and enjoyable. Loft beds are becoming very popular because they take up much less space than a traditional bed and usually do not need a traditional box spring or mattress. They are an excellent choice for homes that have smaller spaces are smaller rooms. They help you get more use out of the square footage of your home.

The easiest to build plans usually can be built using just a few tools, some two by fours, a sheet of plywood, and hardware to fasten the pieces together. These usually require no special skills other than being able to measure a board, cutting it straight, and drilling straight holes to fasten the hardware. Using a simple design, it does not take long to construct one of these beds. Actually, the most time-consuming part about building one these beds is constructing the latter because it takes more measuring and the fastener holes have to be drilled precisely so that the rungs are equally spaced the right distance apart.

As far as that goes, using a traditional mattress and box spring is not necessary. That being said, if a heavier person is going to be sleeping on a bed, it might be more comfortable to them to have a box spring and regular mattress. For children and small adults, usually a futon mattress will be just fine. There are also specially made loft bed mattresses available that are made specially for loft beds.

When looking at different loft bed plans, you should look for one that is easy to build, simple by design, sturdy, and will suit the area of the room that you want built in. Also, make sure that it includes a plan for the latter. You also want to remember to build at a high feature needs as to what you want put under. If you put a desk under it needs to have some headroom at the bottom. If you want put a chest of drawers under it needs to fit as well.

If you want to build one of these affordable and space saving beds, you will need the right plan. Having an easy to build plan will save you a lot of time, money, headaches and frustration.

Daybeds - Finding the Perfect Daybed for Your Home!

!±8± Daybeds - Finding the Perfect Daybed for Your Home!

Functional, timeless, and versatile. Daybeds can be used for seating in the day and sleeping in the night - day 'bed'. They are beds with a back and sides that always come in Twin Size (38" x 75"). This clever combination is by no means a contemporary invention but dates back nearly to the 5th century. Why reinvent the wheel, just give it a new spin!

Today daybeds come in many varieties (wood, metal, wicker, upholstered, trundle or a combination of materials) and styles (traditional, transitional, contemporary, canopy, mission to sleigh). They make a great sofa/bed combination in your home; be it the guest room, den, office, sunroom or kid's room.

For wooden daybeds, the options are maple, oak, pine, mahogany, cherry, walnut or rosewood. These also come in colors ranging from black, dark (medium, light) to natural wood finish. While cedar will provide a rustic atmosphere, oak may spell elegance. There is something about the metal bed that makes it score over others easily. A choice in heavy metal like iron would lend itself well to a traditional home design.

The varied finishes in metal offer fantastic design options to suit your home, whether styled with contemporary, traditional or transitional looks. While a wicker bed would brighten up any decor since its adornment lies in the mattress, cushions and daybed linen (would generally include one daybed comforter, daybed cover or bed skirt and three standard pillow shams). The daybed cover or bed skirt (often frills) is the fabric that drops all the way from the mattress top to the floor on the front three sides. This just makes it look more neat and tailored.

There are two types of daybed trundles, a pop-up trundle or drawer trundle. The drawer or roll-out trundle simply rolls out from under the daybed to create another twin-size sleeping space, perfect for kid's sleepovers. Pop-up daybed trundles are also extremely popular, as they can transform your twin size daybed into a king size bed (76" x 80"). In the lift-up or pop-up trundle you roll out the bed and unfold the legs for support.

The ever-popular daybed continues to be on a roll, what with its multi-tasking abilities to play the role of a bed, couch and a bed within a bed!
